7) Dockweiler State Beach
Address: 12001 Vista Del Mar, Playa del Rey, CA 90293
Pros: Right in the sand.
Cons: No tents, noise from LAX.
6) Malibu Creek State Park
Address: 1925 Las Virgenes Rd, Calabasas, CA 91302
Pros: Isolated sites, beautiful nature
Cons: Opposite side of PCH from the ocean
Rated “The Best Malibu Campground” by Yelp users, you may wonder why we haven’t rated this beach as our number one. Well, first and foremost, it is not situated on the beach itself. In fact, this state park shouldn’t even be on the list. Located a 10-minute drive from the shore, Malibu Creek State Park is anything but beach camping. But this campground is closer to the sea than most, and it offers a truly seclusive forest camping experience. You will find everything from water swimming holes, creeks, waterfalls, and cool rock formations here. But remember to watch out for rattlesnakes, cougars, and other creatures found in Santa Monica. Although the Malibu Canyons may be most visited by limos for wine tasting, these mountains are just as fun to camp in!
5) Sycamore Canyon Campground
A secluded site at Sycamore Canyon Campground. |
Address: 9000 Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265
Pros: Shaded, forested, shop on site
Cons: Not directly on the beach
Sycamore Canyon Campground is located right by Sycamore Cove Beach, separated by an underpass that makes for a nice walk from the campsite to the ocean. This place can feel crowdy during summer, so it may be necessary to book your campsite in advance. We’ve had several customers ordering party bus vehicles for their nights at Sycamore Canyon. The place is particularly popular for groups, where you rent 3-4 spaces next to one another and bring a group of friends along. You may experience bad phone reception, particularly at campsites and away from the beach.

4) Leo Carrillo Campground
Address: 35000 W Pacific Coast Hwy Malibu, CA 90265
Pros: Shop on-site, shaded
Cons: Not on the beach, crowded
Pros: Shop on-site, shaded
Cons: Not on the beach, crowded
Leo Carrillo may be located on the opposite side of PCH but offers a nice underpass to Leo Carrillo State Beach, similar to Sycamore Canyon. This campground is also similar to Sycamore in the way that there’s a local shop on site, offering firewood and other necessities. It can get crowded during summer, and on some summer days, it may appear more like a beach community than a campground. The majority of the sites are non-private, but it’s easier to find an isolated spot here than at Sycamore Canyon.
3) Malibu Beach RV Camp
Idyllic ocean sites at Malibu Beach RV Camp. |
Address: 25801 Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265
Pros: Gorgeous ocean views, not crowded
Cons: Difficult beach access, no campfires
Pros: Gorgeous ocean views, not crowded
Cons: Difficult beach access, no campfires
While Malibu RV Camp isn’t located ON the beach itself, it may offer the best views of the Pacific Ocean. Despite its name, this campground is also open for tent campers. Some of the campsites are relatively seclusive but offer beautiful views of the sea and nearby Dan Blocker State Beach. This is a private and relatively exclusive campground, hence many dating couples order limousines for stays here. We’ve even had groups of friends ordering a party bus for their weekend spent here. The campsite is located just across the PCH from the beach, but unlike Leo Carrillo- and Sycamore Canyon, this campground offers no direct (safe) walking access to the beach.
Few places in California matches Santa Rosa Island's water quality! |
2) Channel Islands Campgrounds
Pros: Secluded, private, scenic
Cons: Travel time
The California Channel Islands have a great variety of campsites near the sea. For limo clients looking for a beach for themselves, we have transported clients to the Port of Los Angeles for them to travel and camp at the secluded Little Harbor Campground at Catalina Island. An equally cool trip could be a boat ride to the tiny village of Two Harbors, Catalina to camp at Two Harbors Campgrounds. All these trips are available with Catalina Express out of Long Beach, San Pedro, and Dana Point. Other Channel Islands can be visited by Island Packers in Ventura, CA. This service offers boat tours to islands such as Santa Cruz-, San Miguel-, Anacapa-, and Santa Rosa Islands. Most of these National Park islands offer overnight camping near secluded beaches.
1) Thornhill Broome Campground
Address: 9000 W. Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265
Pros: Ideal location right in the sand, a few feet from the ocean
Cons: Waves may reach the rent, rocky beach
Thornhill Broome is the ideal place for the most signature Los Angeles beach camping experience. Here you can set up your rent on the sandy beach, just a few feet away from the ocean waves. The beach is part of Point Mugu State Park. Just be aware that the waves sometimes do reach tents here; remember to place your tent far from the waves! What could be more idyllic - or signature Californian - than to order a limousine to spend the night at a Los Angeles beach? Limousines can spice up any occasion or event, book your limo- or party bus ride from us and we can guarantee a memorable experience for life. And that is the utmost luxury.
